There is a lot of inexpensive shareware and freeware out there that do a zillion different things. Here is one that we use at TG and decided we can't live without. If you try it and feel the same, be sure to make a small donation to the developers.
CutePDF - easy and fast PDF printer
We love this little program.
You run the install program, and 30 seconds later you have it in your printer list. Yes, as a printer. That means that anything you can send to the printer - letters, emails, spreadsheets, pictures, PowerPoint presentations - you can "print" as a PDF. What does this look like? You choose it from your printer list. You hit "print". Then, instead of printing to paper, it asks you what you want to name the file and where you want to save it. It "prints" it digitally! You can, of course, then go open the PDF and print it to paper if you want to.
How we use this most:
- printing online receipt (it's easier for us to file a digital receipt than a stack of paper receipts)
- printing attachments for email (so unknown persons can't change what we wrote)
- Sending document copies to people who don't have the source software (like a PowerPoint slide show to someone who doesn't have PowerPoint)
