Joomla is one of the world’ s most popular open source CMS's (content management system). Don't feel intimidated if you don't know what a CMS website is. You are more familiar with it than you think. Most interactive websites these days are CMS sites. For instance, if you've ever posted a comment on a blog site, you've used a CMS site.
Content management system sites are simply sites that manage your content in a database. Many years ago (in the last century!) when the web was new, the Technogizmo staff were in their 20's, and Google hadn't been invented yet, people built web pages one by one using plain HTML. That was a fine system when the average business website was 5 pages big. It was not so fine when you needed to make a change - and had to change every page one by one.

Joomla is now running on almost 3% of the entire WWW! The Joomla! team has millions of good reasons to be smiling about the Joomla! 1.5. In its current incarnation, it's had millions of downloads, taking it to an unprecedented level of popularity. The new code base is almost an entire re-factor of the old code base. The user experience is still extremely slick but for developers the API is a dream. A proper framework for real PHP architects seeking the best of the best.
